Japan's Railroads, Moon-light Kochi, Shikoku Night Rapid.

Moon-light Kochi is usually operated with only first class cars. However, an economy class car is also available in period of "Seishun 18 Tickets".

Before Seto Ohashi Bridge was opened in 1988, no railroad lines were between the Main Island of Japan and Shikoku; Uko Ferry operated between Uno and Takamatsu was as substitute of railroad line between the Main Island and Shikoku of JR Lines.

In those days, a night train between Takamatsu and Nakamura was operated in order to be connected to the last outbound Uko Ferry of the day and to connect from the first inbound Uko Ferry of the day.

Both Uko Ferry and the night train were abolished in 1988. However, Moon-light Kochi, Shikoku Night Rapid, was begun to serve as the substitute of the combination of the ferry and the night trains for passengers in West (Kansai) Region in order to go to Shikoku.

Moon-light Kochi was first class only when the servise was begun, but an economy class car is also linked in order to carry more passengers in peak season today. That means Moon-light Kochi was not been availabe with Seishun 18 Ticket, but it is available today.

Moon-light Kochi is useful to make your trip not only from/to Kochi district but also from/to Tokushima district by connecting at Awa Ikeda to a train of Tokushima Line.
